Dr. A. Biju Kumar is the Vice Chancellor of the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) and Senior Professor & Head of the Department of Aquatic Biology and Fisheries, University of Kerala. He received advanced training in taxonomy and DNA barcoding from leading global institutions, including the Czech Academy of Sciences; the University of Adelaide, Australia; and the University of Guelph, Canada.

Recognized among the top 2% of scientists worldwide in Marine Biology in the 2024 Stanford–Elsevier global ranking, Dr. Kumar has received numerous awards for his contributions to academics and research. His work spans biodiversity, ecology, climate change, aquatic conservation, and environmental sustainability.

He is an active member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission and a leading expert in ocean literacy and science communication. With over 250 research publications and 26 books to his credit, Dr. Kumar is one of India’s leading scientists in the field of marine biology.
