He was the Founder and Executive Member of the Sahyadri Natural History Society in Thiruvananthapuram. Shaji has authored important works in biodiversity documentation, including "Biodiversity Documentation for Kerala" and "A Field Guide to the Freshwater Fishes of Kerala," published by the Kerala State Biodiversity Board, Thiruvananthapuram.
