C P Shaji is a renowned taxonomic expert and conservation biologist, widely respected for his contributions to natural history and biodiversity studies. He was the Founder and Executive Member of the Sahyadri Natural History Society in Thiruvananthapuram. Recognized for his dedication to nature education, he received the Sahyadri Paristhithi Puraskaram award for the best nature education book in Malayalam titled "Keralathile Sudhajala Malsyangal."

Shaji has authored important works in biodiversity documentation, including "Biodiversity Documentation for Kerala" and "A Field Guide to the Freshwater Fishes of Kerala," published by the Kerala State Biodiversity Board, Thiruvananthapuram. His writings have significantly advanced public awareness and scientific knowledge of Kerala's freshwater fish diversity, bridging academic research with conservation efforts.
