Rajendran is the Director of the KSCSTE-Institute for Climate Change Studies (ICCS), Government of Kerala, Kottayam, and Chief Scientist at CSIR-Fourth Paradigm Institute (CSIR-4PI), Bengaluru. He also serves as Professor at the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), Ghaziabad.
Holding a Ph.D. in Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru—where he earned the Academic Excellence Award—Rajendran conducted postdoctoral research at Florida State University, USA, and received a JSPS Fellowship from Japan's Ministry of Education .His career includes research at Japan's Meteorological Research Institute before joining CSIR, Government of India. Rajendran contributes to policy as a member of Kerala's Working Group on Climate Change and the Board of Studies at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT).
He has also served as Associate Editor for the Journal of Earth System Science . Rajendran's expertise covers Indian monsoon variability, climate modelling, tropical meteorology, and numerical weather prediction, with key advances in projections for the Western Ghats. He has authored over 50 SCI papers, six book chapters, technical reports, and supervised several Ph.D. students, enhancing climate adaptation strategies.
